NTS – Swedish National Traffic Management System

The NTS is a powerful decision support system used by traffic managers at the four traffic management centres in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and Gävle to monitor and control traffic across the country. The system has over 2,000 predefined action plans that help traffic managers handle all possible situations quickly and safely.

Carmenta Engine and Carmenta Server are used for the visualisation and analysis of geospatial data in all parts of the NTS architecture.

Integration with Client Application

For desktop applications, Carmenta Engine integrates with a client application to provide the centrepiece for a map-centric aggregated overview of the current situation on the road network. Carmenta Engine allows full interaction with maps and map entities in multiple maps, providing different views of roads, sensors and equipment, etc.

Further integration includes the handling of alarms, events and planning from the application directly in the map. With the rich support for different geospatial analysis functions, complex tools and decision-support functions can easily be built in the client application.

Access Published Map Services

Client applications will also benefit from accessing published map services from Carmenta Server (on Windows Server), Carmenta Server Core, deployed in Docker containers on servers or cloud platforms for microservice architectures, or from any other server publishing standardised services.

The published map services allow the centralised distribution and handling of geodata, and they support a large variety of raster, vector and other formats on major OGC formats including WMS, WMTS, WFS and vector tiles.

Access Published Geospatial Analysis Functions

For web applications, Carmenta Server and Carmenta Server Core further allow the client applications to access published geospatial analysis functions, in addition to map data. For a 3D web client based on the Cesium open source library, Carmenta Server and Carmenta Server Core will supply the Terrain service and detailed 3D Tiles services.

 

Solutions for Self-Driving Vehicles

Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) are more and more integrated in today’s traffic system and Carmenta’s products offer solutions for the management and control of CAV fleets including self-driving vehicles.
